Meet Jean Skillman
Jean Skillman is a retired family physician from Cambridge, Ontario, who dedicated over four decades to compassionate, community-based care. Beginning her career in 1973 at the Hespeler Medical Clinic, Jean went on to play a key role in founding the Two Rivers Family Health Team, a testament to her leadership and commitment to accessible health services.
Throughout her career, Jean focused on areas that reflect both her expertise and empathy: sexual assault services for survivors, long-term care, rehabilitation, and home visits for frail patients. She retired in 2018, leaving behind a legacy of medical care grounded in dignity and deep human connection.
Beyond medicine, Jean has been a powerful advocate for women and girls through her decades-long involvement in Soroptimist International. Since joining as a charter member in 1981, she has served in multiple leadership roles—locally, regionally, and nationally—including Club President, Program Director, and Governor for Eastern Canada. Her global participation in Soroptimist conventions and board leadership has shaped her into a thoughtful, forward-thinking mentor and changemaker.
Jean is especially proud of Soroptimist’s evolution back to its original mission: supporting the needs of women and girls. She credits the organization with her growth as a leader—and even laughs that it’s what first taught her to use a computer!
🎧 In this episode of Monthly Wednesdays with Nada, Jean shares her reflections on womanhood, healing, and the importance of amplifying women’s voices.
