Mental health includes your emotional, psychological and social well-being. Mental health affects how you feel, think, act and cope with life. Mental health can also be defined as a state of well being where you can realize your unique abilities and can cope with the normal day to day stressors of life.
Mental health is not one dimensional rather mental health exists on a spectrum. There is mental illness, which refers to issues such as anxiety or depression. At the other end of the spectrum is mental wellness which refers to joy, freedom, and happiness. Most counselling focuses on reducing symptoms and getting you to the point where you can manage day to day living.
