Affirmations to Support You Through Healing

Healing can be really hard. Some days, even small things like getting out of bed can feel like big wins. Other days, old pains can show up without warning. The healing process isn’t a straight path, but it is possible. And no matter where you are on your journey, you deserve care, support, and reminders that you are not alone.

One simple way to support your healing is by using affirmations. Kind and loving words you say to yourself to build up your sense of worth and strength.

At Nada Johnson Consulting & Counselling Services, Nada understands how deeply trauma can affect your sense of self and how important it is to have support that feels safe, empowering, and affirming. Our approach is trauma-informed, compassionate, and tailored to meet you where you are. Whether you're just beginning your healing journey or continuing down your path, we're here to walk alongside you with care and understanding.

💚Affirmations are one small way to begin that shift, and you don’t have to do it alone💚

So, What Are Affirmations?

Affirmations are simple, positive phrases you say to yourself. They speak to who you are and who you’re becoming. Instead of focusing on what’s wrong or what’s missing, affirmations help you focus on your strengths, your values, and what you truly deserve (Acenda, n.d.).

They’re usually said in the present tense like “I am worthy of love” or “I deserve to feel safe.” At first, they might feel hard to believe, especially if you’ve been told otherwise. But the more you repeat them, the more they can help quiet the negative thoughts and build up your confidence.

On tough days, affirmations can be like little lifelines. They can be reminders that healing is possible and that you’re already growing, even if it doesn’t feel like it yet. With time, they can help shift the way you speak to yourself and bring in more kindness, hope, and self-love.

How to Use Affirmations

Start by choosing an affirmation that feels meaningful to you. It can be short (around 3 to 7 words) and match your purpose, whether that’s to boost confidence, motivate, or reassure yourself. Make sure it feels authentic, even if you don’t fully believe it yet.

According to Everyday Health, affirmations can be said out loud, like in front of a mirror at home, or quietly in your head if you’re in public. Many people find it helpful to practice affirmations in the morning for a positive start or in the evening to help relax.

Consistency is key. Try to make saying your affirmation a regular habit, like part of your morning or evening routine. Writing affirmations on notecards, saving them in your phone, or setting daily reminders can help you stick with it.

🌿 Sample Affirmations you can use 🌿

🩹 For the Days That Feel Heavy

  • It’s okay to feel what I’m feeling.

  • Healing is not a race I can go at my own pace.

  • I’m doing the best I can, and that’s enough.

  • My feelings are valid, even if others don’t understand.

🧠  For Rebuilding Self-Worth

  • I am worthy of love, safety, and respect.

  • What happened to me does not define me.

  • I am allowed to take up space.

  • I did not deserve the pain I experienced.

  • I am not broken. I am healing.

🌱 For Believing in the Future

  • Peace is possible for me.

  • I am open to joy, even after pain.

  • I can build a life I love.

  • The past is part of my story, but not the whole story.

  • I am becoming the woman I was always meant to be.

When You're Ready, We're Here

Healing is a journey, and it’s okay if it doesn’t look perfect. What matters is that you keep showing up for yourself with compassion, with honesty, and with hope.

Affirmations are one gentle way to support that process, to speak life into your healing, and to remind yourself of who you are beyond the pain.

And if you ever feel like you need more support, you're not alone.
