You’re Not Too Much. You Were Just Made to Feel That Way

Hi, I’m Nada.
I want to talk to the part of you that’s ever felt like you had to shrink. The part that was told to quiet down, calm down, stop crying, stop talking, stop needing so much.

Maybe you’ve been called sensitive. Or dramatic.
Maybe someone told you you’re always “making things about you.
”Maybe you’ve been laughed at or brushed off in conversations.
Or maybe you learned early on that the safest thing to be… was silent.
If this is you, I want you to know something:
You’re not too much. You were just made to feel that way.
And it’s not your fault.
🧠 Where This Message Comes From
Being called “too much” often starts early.
Maybe your family didn’t know how to handle big emotions.
Maybe a partner dismissed your needs.
Maybe you were always the one who “felt too deeply.”

People who feel things deeply are often misunderstood or shamed not because there’s something wrong with them, but because others don’t know how to support that level of emotion (Lo, 2024).
Over time, that leads to stress both emotional and physical.
According to the American Psychological Association, women are more likely than men to feel overwhelmed and report symptoms like fatigue, muscle tension, and headaches caused by chronic stress (Medaris, 2023).
💔 How It Shows Up Now

You might:
Apologize for your feelings
Stay quiet, even when something hurts
Hide your needs
Worry people will leave if you speak up
You might feel like your emotions are “too big” or your presence takes up “too much space.” But that’s not the truth. That’s conditioning.
And it can be unlearned.
🧩 Small Ways to Heal

Here’s how you can begin letting go of the “too much” label:
Notice the inner voice. When it says “You’re too much,” ask: Says who?
Stop apologizing for your feelings. Being emotional isn’t wrong. It means you care.
Take up space. Say what you need. Speak your truth.
Rest. You don’t have to hold everything for everyone. Rest is necessary, not selfish.
Find safe people. People who value your voice, not just your silence.
💛 A Note from Me to You
If no one’s ever told you this, let me say it now:
You’re not too sensitive. You’re not too needy. You’re not too emotional.
You are human. And you are allowed to feel deeply, want connection, and take up space.
At NJCCS, I offer a safe place to explore your emotions without judgment. You don’t have to shrink here. You get to be your full self and that will never be too much.
